At the center of God’s calling in my life is offering the love, grace and fullness of life that I have known in Christ Jesus to others. At the center of my vocation is what Apostle Paul has described as the ‘ministry of reconciliation.’ (2 Corinthians 5:18-20.)Other foundational scripture passages for me are John 4- the Woman at the Well story; and Ephesians 4:15, Apostle Paul’s exhortation to ‘speak the truth in love.’ In many ways, I approach preaching as pastoral care, ministering to the hearts in every pew. I also seek to preach prophetically, seeking visionary transformation and growing discipleship. I have a passion to share the good news of God’s power to heal brokenness; and to bring wholeness, deep fulfillment and meaningful purpose to our lives.

I have been blessed to serve Ramsey Church since June of 2013.  In over twenty years of ministry with the United Methodist Church, I have loved serving in every setting: large and small, rural, suburban, and city. But I have to say that I have never loved serving more than with the wonderful loving and faithful people of Ramsey Church.  It is a great joy to serve such a servant hearted congregation with so many ministries in our community.   Prior to serving in ministry as an ordained elder, I served as a Clinical Social Worker in mental health settings, a Christian counselor, and as a hospital chaplain in the community.  I studied at Eastern Mennonite Seminary for my MDiv; and also completed studies at the University of Baltimore and James Madison University. Go Dukes!

Our family is from Staunton, in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. In my childhood and youth, I also lived in Bangkok, Thailand and New Delhi, India.    My husband Brian and I have been blessed in our thirty three years of marriage, and with our two beautiful young adult sons, Harrison and Jeremy, and his wife, Samantha, a precious daughter of the heart. We love living and serving in Southside Richmond.  Some of our favorite places in Richmond are Peter Chang’s Chinese restaurant, Hollywood Cemetery and Maymont Park.

Joyce Walsh

Office Administrator
E-mail Joyce Walsh

Joyce came to work at Ramsey Memorial in March 1971 after moving here from Danville, Virginia.  She began as a part time secretary to Reverend Woodrow Laine and has worked with 8 senior pastors and 4 associate pastors since then.  She went full time after her daughter went away to college 1987.  Her responsibilities have been numerous with assisting the pastors.  Many reports have been done for the Charge Conference and the end of year by her.  She has assisted with many members’ weddings, which she enjoys so much.  The sad part of her job is getting various groups to take care of her friends’ funeral meals.  She is financial secretary of the church which means attending the Finance Committee with reports ready monthly.

Joyce has been married to Curtis for 55 years and has two wonderful children, Jeff and Joanna.  They have four grandchildren, whom they love spending their time every chance they get.

Sarah has been serving at Ramsey Memorial since 2013.  She began as a praise band leader, and was then hired work with youth and young adults.  Since then her role has expanded further to include pastoral and administrative duties.  Her primary goals with young people are creating safe spaces for their voices to be heard, creating a strong faith foundation based on Jesus Christ, encouraging them to participate in the life of the Church, and networking to create multi-church events.

Sarah is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and George Fox Evangelical Seminary.  Some of her great loves in ministry are worship songwriting, contemplative practices, theology, and spiritual direction.  Sarah lives in downtown RVA with her one-eyed cat Moonpie, and enjoys playing petanque, swing dancing, and sharing her original music.
